Fall Potluck Reminder

This is a reminder that our Harvest Potluck which will take place on Monday, September 26th.

PLEASE RSVP!!

For this potluck it is important that we know how many people are going to attend. This is because we will need to rent some tables and chairs to use for our dinner. So even if you haven’t sent an RSVP for past events, please do so now.

Celebrate the Bounties of Summer at Our Harvest Potluck

Join Slow Food Reno for a special “Best of the Harvest” potluck on the lawn of the historic Caughlin Ranch House, now home to the Garden Shop Nursery. We’ll be setting a long table in their beautiful garden and filling it with your favorite best-of-the-harvest dishes made with an emphasis on local, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients.

Date: Monday, September 26 at 5:30 p.m.

Location: Garden Shop Nursery, 3636 Mayberry Drive in Reno.

Along with your potluck dish, please bring a card with the name of the dish, information about the ingredients used in it, and the origin of your recipe.

Don’t forget to bring your own plates, utensils, and beverages.

We’re looking forward to a lovely dinner with friends on a beautiful autumn evening in the shadow of the historic Caughlin Ranch House!

Facebook is changing the way that it presents groups. Essentially, group pages for large groups such as ours are being scaled down to provide closed spaces for small groups of people to communicate about shared interests.

Summer is just around the corner and everyone who loves real food looks forward to this blissfully abundant season. Summer and Slow Food; what could be better?

Wait, I know! How about summer, real food, and kids? The Urban Roots Garden Classrooms Summer Camp program is all of this in one package.

If you’re looking for something unique and fun for the young ones this year consider the Urban Roots Garden Classrooms Summer Camp. Urban Roots is a dynamic non-profit dedicated to developing innovative opportunities for kids and educators. Camp days are spent outdoors learning about plants, bugs, food, wildlife, and each other. The 2011 program has expanded to offer camp for kids of all ages and runs from June through August. Please join us for the Slow Food Reno Spring 2011 Potluck Monday, May 9th, 6pm at Patagonia Community Room and Kitchen, 8550 White Fir Street. Anyone interested is invited to attend. Slow Food Membership not required.

Monday’s guest speakers include Amber Sallaberry who will speak about the Great Basin Food Co-op and their new building; Josie Luciano will talk about the new Urban Roots Farm, which Slow Food Reno contributed apple trees to. We’ll also talk about upcoming events and call for volunteers to help with our programs.

Please bring a dish to share and your own plates, cups, and utensils
$5.00 donation per family requested.

Patagonia is located on 8550 White Fir Street, which is off of W.4th Street about 2 miles west of the intersection of McCarran and W. 4th. Going west on W. 4th, turn left on Woodland Ave. then right on White Fir. The community room faces the river at the back of the building.

Please join Slow Food Reno at this year’s Earth Day Celebration at Idlewild Park, Sunday, May 1, 2011, 10-4 p.m.

Along with the Slow Food Reno, there will be other food-related organizations at the Earth Day Celebration including edible Reno-Tahoe, Great Basin Community Food Co-op, Lattin Farms, Great Basin Baskets CSA, Urban Roots Garden Classrooms, and others.

The day will feature live music, sustainability workshops, children’s activities, science, technology, free recycling, and booths with earth-friendly food, goods, and services. Over 200 vendors will be there and you’ll enjoy a variety of live entertainment all day.

Earth Day is organized by Nevada EcoNet. Activities will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free. Free parking and a free shuttle service to Idlewild Park will be available at nearby Reno High School, 395 Booth Street. If you ride a bike, roller blades, or skateboard, free valet service at Idlewild Park will be offered by the Reno Bike Project. For more information, call Nevada EcoNet at (775) 323-3433.
